Cape Hillsborough Nature Tourist Park
About This Campsite
Cape Hillsborough Nature Tourist Park is the only strategic play if your bucket list includes that famous photo of wallabies on the beach at sunrise. By setting up camp here, you beat the convoy of tourists driving in from Mackay in the dark. You can literally roll out of your sleeping bag, grab a coffee, and walk onto the beach while the day-trippers are still fighting for parking spots. Beyond the wildlife, this is a polished resort-style park that caters heavily to families, featuring a swimming pool (with a slide), a mini-golf course, and a decent diner if you want a break from cooking. It accommodates everything from tents to massive fifth-wheelers with large, flat powered sites. The Dad Warning: You are in mangrove country. The midges (sandflies) here can be absolutely savage at dawn and dusk. Do not rely on citronella candles; bring the heavy-duty tropical strength spray and cover up, or you will regret it. Also, because of the resident kangaroos and wallabies that roam freely through the park, there is a strict no pets policy.
