Marramarra Campground
About This Campsite
Marramarra Creek is one of the best-kept secrets in the Sydney region — and the boat-in or walk-in access is exactly what keeps it that way. No drive-in. No crowds. Just Marramarra Creek, the mangroves, the birds, and a campfire ring.
The campground sits in the southern precinct of Marramarra National Park, about an hour from Sydney’s CBD. You get there one of two ways: hike the 3.5km Marramarra Ridge Trail from the car park at Bloodwood Road (it has some steep sections, so pack light), or paddle in via Berowra Creek by kayak or canoe. Either way, once you arrive you’ll understand why people keep coming back.
There are two areas: Main Camp and Orchard Camp. Orchard Camp sits among remnant orange trees from early European settlers — a genuinely unusual feature. Both areas have picnic tables and fire rings. Composting toilets are available at both. That’s it for facilities. No water, no bins, no powered sites. You carry everything in and everything out.
The creek itself is the attraction — fishing, kayaking, paddling through the mangroves, and swimming when conditions allow. The Marramarra Ridge to Smugglers Ridge loop (13.2km) is the best day walk option if you have the legs for it. Birdwatching is exceptional throughout the park, and the area has significant Darug Aboriginal heritage including rock engravings and grinding grooves.
The key practical rules: BYO drinking water (none on site). BYO firewood (collecting from the park is prohibited). Pack out all rubbish (no bins). Book through NPWS before you go.
