Leliyn (Edith Falls) Campground
About This Campsite
Leliyn (Edith Falls) sits on the western side of Nitmiluk National Park, about 60 kilometres north of Katherine along a sealed road. The main campground is a grassy, shaded area with over 50 sites suited to tents, caravans, camper trailers and motorhomes. Hot showers, flushing toilets, gas BBQs and picnic tables are all provided, and a kiosk near the car park serves hot meals, cold drinks, ice creams and basic supplies.
The real drawcard is the swimming. A short walk from camp leads to the main plunge pool at the base of the falls, fringed by paperbark and pandanus palms. The 2.6km Leliyn Trail loop climbs to the upper pools for a quieter dip with views across the escarpment. For serious hikers, Leliyn is also the endpoint of the famous 62km Jatbula Trail, and the more remote Sweetwater Pool campsite is an 8.6km return walk with composting toilets and basic bush camping for those wanting overnight solitude.
All bookings must be made online before arrival, as you cannot pay at the park. An NT Parks Pass is required for interstate visitors (NT residents are exempt). Swimming conditions can change rapidly during the wet season (November to April) due to flash flooding, and pools may occasionally close if crocodiles are detected. The dry season from May to October offers the best conditions for both camping and swimming. Expect birdlife including Gouldian Finches and Hooded Parrots around the campground fringes.
