About This Campsite
Corinna Wilderness Village is the ultimate “off-grid” reset button for families tackling Tasmania’s wild West Coast. Accessible via the famous “Road to Nowhere” (Western Explorer), this historic mining town feels like a genuine time capsule. For the kids, the adventure starts before you even arrive: you have to cross the Pieman River on the Fatman Barge, one of the few vehicle ferries left in the state (check the operating hours, or you’ll be stuck). Once you are there, the “Dad win” is the forced digital detox. There is zero phone reception and no Wi-Fi. It sounds terrifying, but it forces the family to actually talk, play cards, and explore the rainforest. The camping here is limited and specific—expect gravel pads or timber platforms rather than sprawling grassy fields, suited best for tents and smaller campervans (big caravans might struggle with the tight spaces and the winding gravel road in). You don’t have to rough it completely, though; the on-site Tarkine Hotel serves legit pub meals and cold beer, which is a lifesaver after a long day of driving. The must-do activity is the Arcadia II river cruise—it’s slow, scenic, and surprisingly engaging for kids. No pets allowed.
