Ayers Rock Campground (Yulara)
About This Campsite
Ayers Rock Campground is your one and only option for camping near Uluru, but thankfully, it is well-equipped to handle the harsh Red Centre conditions. Located within the Ayers Rock Resort complex at Yulara (about 15km from the rock itself), this is not a remote bush camp—it is a logistical hub with a swimming pool (absolute gold in the afternoon heat), playgrounds, and modern amenities. The key “Dad win” here is the free resort shuttle bus that loops around the complex; you can set up camp and then jump on the bus to hit the well-stocked IGA supermarket or the tavern without having to unhook the trailer or pack up the rooftop tent. Sites range from unpowered tent patches (often on grass) to powered sites for big rigs (usually on dirt). Be prepared for the surface: the powered sites are often hard-packed red earth. You will want heavy-duty pegs (screw-in types are best) and a serious ground mat unless you want red dust in your cornflakes. Important: While the campground itself is dog-friendly, the National Park is strictly no pets. You cannot take the dog to see the rock, so you need to plan your days accordingly.
