Yangie Bay Campground - Coffin Bay National Park
About This Campsite
Yangie Bay Campground overlooks the calm sheltered waters of Yangie Bay within Coffin Bay National Park, about 17km from the township of Coffin Bay on the Eyre Peninsula. This is the only campground in the national park accessible by 2WD vehicle, with a sealed road all the way in (narrow, 40km/h speed limit). The 19 allocated unpowered sites are split into two areas, with sites 1 to 12 on the north side offering better wind protection among shady sheoaks, and sites 13 to 19 on the south side sitting lower and closer to the water. Site 8 is widely regarded as the pick of the campground for its sheltered position and bay views.
Facilities include long-drop toilets, a picnic shelter and a kayak launch point. Communal fire pits are provided and campfires are permitted from April to November, with pits covered and locked during the fire ban period. Tank water is available but not potable. There are no showers, no powered sites and no rubbish collection, so you must be fully self-contained and take everything out with you. The campground suits tents, camper trailers, caravans and motorhomes, with several drive-through sites available. Camping permits must be purchased prior to arrival at around $12 per site per night for up to 8 people.
Five walking trails begin from the campground area, ranging from the short Yangie Lookout Walk (20 minutes, 1km) to the demanding Long Beach Hike (3.5 hours one way, 10km through sand dunes). Kayaking and paddle boarding on the sheltered bay are excellent, and beach fishing is permitted in a restricted area near camp. Wildlife is abundant with emus, western grey kangaroos, goannas, over 120 bird species including the threatened hooded plover and rare white-bellied sea eagle. Southern right whales are visible from the Avoid Bay cliffs between June and October. Park entry fees are currently waived through Easter 2026, though camping fees still apply. Be aware that bees can swarm around water sources during warmer months.
