Mount Clear Campground
About This Campsite
Mount Clear Campground sits in the southern reaches of Namadgi National Park, about 45 minutes from Canberra’s CBD. With just 10 unpowered sites tucked into bushland at around 800 metres elevation, it feels genuinely remote despite being the closest mountain camping to the capital.
The campground has pit toilets and gas BBQ facilities, but no showers or drinking water, so come prepared. Trailheads leave directly from camp, connecting you to some of Namadgi’s best walking tracks through alpine woodland and snow gum forest. Keep your eyes open for gang-gang cockatoos, wombats, and echidnas, especially around dusk.
Summer days are warm but nights cool down fast at this altitude, and frost is common from April through September. Campfires are not permitted, so bring a gas stove. At just $6.88 per adult per night (kids under 15 free), Mount Clear is one of the cheapest bush camping options within an hour of Canberra.
