Honeysuckle Campground
About This Campsite
Honeysuckle Campground is a place of genuine historical significance masked as a bush camp. This is the site of the former tracking station that received the footage of Neil Armstrong walking on the moon (yes, before Parkes). The “Dad Win” here is the combination of history and hiking. You are perfectly positioned to tackle the Booroomba Rocks trail—arguably the best view in the ACT. You can hike it directly from your tent (10.5km return) or drive to the upper car park for a shorter scamper. The campground itself is spacious and open, with a mix of sun and shade. The facilities are a cut above the usual bush standard because of the massive covered outdoor kitchen with gas BBQs and picnic tables, meaning you can cook dinner out of the rain without setting up a tarp. The Weather Warning: You are at altitude (over 1000m). It gets cold. Even in summer, the nights can be crisp; in winter, it can snow. Pack the 0°C sleeping bags, not the Kmart summer ones. Water is available from tanks but must be boiled/treated, and there are no showers. Strictly no pets.
