About This Campsite
Blanket Bay is the smartest way to do the Great Ocean Road if you want to escape the caravan crowds of Apollo Bay. Tucked away in the Otways, this intimate Parks Victoria campground feels properly remote while still being accessible by standard 2WD vehicles (though the gravel road in can be corrugated and dusty—expect a car wash afterwards). It is a fantastic strategic base for families who want to tackle a section of the Great Ocean Walk without committing to a full multi-day trek; the track runs right past your tent pegs. The campground itself is compact with only about 22 sites, so it feels quiet and contained. The sites are unpowered and best suited for tents, camper trailers, or small campervans—big caravans will struggle here due to tight turning circles and overhanging trees. Amenities are basic bush-standard: clean drop toilets, but no showers and no drinking water (you must bring everything with you). The bay offers a relatively sheltered beach which is great for rockpooling at low tide, but keep a close eye on the kids as the ocean here is unpatrolled and wild. Strictly no pets.
