Anaura Bay Campsite

Anaura Bay Campsite is one of the East Coast’s absolute gems, offering a stunning beachfront grassy strip that feels a world away from the commercial holiday parks. However, you need to know exactly what you are signing up for: this is a “pack in, pack out” DOC site with zero amenities. There are no toilets and no showers here—you strictly must have your own chemical toilet to stay. If you are looking for the hot showers and camp kitchens, you need to head to the commercial Motor Camp down the road. For those who are fully self-contained, though, this is paradise. The campground is split into two zones (north and south), both offering flat, grassy sites that are generally accessible for 2WD vehicles, caravans, and motorhomes, though the ground can get soft after heavy rain. It sits right at the start of the Anaura Bay Walkway, a loop track that guarantees to wear the kids out with some steep climbs and epic coastal views. Water is available from a tap but is untreated, so you must boil it before drinking. Unlike many DOC sites, dogs are allowed (on a leash), making it a rare win for pet owners. Just remember: strictly no fires and watch the rips if you’re swimming.
