Orroral Campground
About This Campsite
Orroral Campground is one of the most popular bush camps in Namadgi National Park, and for good reason. It has 20 spacious sites spread through open woodland, flush toilets, gas BBQs, and direct trailhead access to some of the park’s best walking tracks. For a national park campground, the facilities are solid.
The Orroral Valley has a fascinating history. This was once the site of NASA’s Orroral Valley Tracking Station, which supported the Apollo missions in the 1960s and 70s. Today the valley is home to large mobs of kangaroos that graze the open grasslands at dawn and dusk, along with wombats, echidnas, and the occasional gang-gang cockatoo.
Nights get cold here year-round, and winter can drop well below zero with frost and occasional snow. Campfires are not permitted, so pack a good gas stove and a warm sleeping bag. Booking is essential. At $10 per adult per night with kids under 15 free, Orroral is a bargain for a weekend escape from Canberra.
