Waipatiki Beach Holiday Park
About This Campsite
Waipatiki Beach Holiday Park is a small, family-run campground tucked away on a golden sand beach about 35km north of Napier. The setting feels remote and secluded, surrounded by native bush and coastal scenery, yet it’s less than an hour’s drive from the city. The beach sits just 150 metres from the camping area across a small freshwater stream, and the surrounding Waipatiki Scenic Reserve offers walking tracks through kahikatea trees, nikau palms, and stands of redwood forest. It’s the kind of place where you genuinely disconnect from everyday life.
The park caters for up to 150 people across powered and non-powered sites, along with standard, kitchen, and self-contained cabins. Powered sites (16 available) include taps and sumps on some sites. Communal facilities include a kitchen with hotplates, oven, microwaves, toasters, kettles, fridges, and freezers. Hot showers are coin-operated ($1 for six minutes), and there’s a lounge room, laundry, dump station, and a small camp shop selling basics. The campground also has a large playing field and some friendly farm animals including chickens and a goat, which make it particularly appealing for families with young children. Wi-Fi is available on site.
The beach itself is a beautiful stretch of golden sand suitable for swimming, surfing, surfcasting, diving, and boating. Freshwater streams running through the property are popular paddling spots for kids. The surrounding bush is alive with native birdlife, including tui, kereru, and bellbirds. Several coastal and bush walking tracks start nearby, and the campground is an easy drive to other DOC tracks in the region. Check-in is from 2pm, check-out by 10am.
