Hot Water Beach TOP 10 Holiday Park
About This Campsite
Hot Water Beach TOP 10 is the “Command Centre” for one of New Zealand’s most famous bucket-list activities: digging your own hot pool in the sand. The strategic advantage of staying here is the 700m walking track to the beach. The public car park at the beach is expensive and chaotic; by camping here, you can leave the car at your site and walk down with your gear. The Dad Reality Check: You are on a strict schedule. The hot water is only accessible 2 hours either side of low tide. If you arrive at high tide, you are just digging a cold hole in the wet sand. Check the tide charts before you even book. The park itself is a full-blown resort, featuring a heated swimming pool complex (great if the ocean is too rough) and an on-site takeaway/restaurant, which is a lifesaver after a few hours of aggressive digging. The “Dad Win”: Guests get free spade hire. Do not buy a cheap plastic one from the warehouse; you need the heavy-duty metal spades provided by reception to make a proper dent in the wet sand. Pet Policy: Strictly seasonal. Dogs are allowed on sites (not in cabins) during the low season (usually Feb–Dec, excluding Easter/Labour weekends), but are banned during the Christmas/January peak.
