The strategic advantage of staying here is the 700m walking track to the beach. The public car park at the beach is expensive and chaotic; by camping here, you can leave the car at your site and walk down with your gear. The Dad Reality Check: You are on a strict schedule. The hot water is only accessible 2 hours either side of low tide. If you arrive at high tide, you are just digging a cold hole in the wet sand. Check the tide charts before you even book. The park itself is a full-blown resort, featuring a heated swimming pool complex (great if the ocean is too rough) and an on-site takeaway/restaurant, which is a lifesaver after a few hours of aggressive digging. The “Dad Win”: Guests get free spade hire. Do not buy a cheap plastic one from the warehouse; you need the heavy-duty metal spades provided by reception to make a proper dent in the wet sand.
