Te Haruhi Bay Campground - Shakespear Regional Park
About This Campsite
Te Haruhi Bay Campground sits at the tip of the Whangaparaoa Peninsula in Shakespear Regional Park, one of Auckland’s open wildlife sanctuaries. The park is predator-fenced, which means native birdlife is exceptional here. Bellbirds, tī, kererū, and North Island robins are all common, and the coastal views across the Hauraki Gulf are hard to beat.
The campground has around 10 unpowered sites with flush toilets, gas BBQs, and a dump station. There are no showers, no drinking water, and no camp kitchen. Sites suit tents and smaller campervans, and pets are not allowed due to the sanctuary status. Bring everything you need.
Te Haruhi Bay itself is a sheltered cove with calm water for swimming, and the walking tracks through the park loop through native bush and open farmland with views out to Tiritiri Matangi Island. At just $13 per adult and $6 per child, this is one of the most affordable campgrounds close to Auckland, only about 40 kilometres from the city centre. It books out quickly over summer weekends.
