Conto Campground

Conto Campground is the best strategic play for families wanting to do Margaret River on a budget without being crammed into a commercial caravan park. Located deep within the peppermint and karri woodlands of the Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park, it offers massive, well-spaced sites that give you genuine privacy—something rare in this region. The dense forest is a huge utility win; it shields you from the howling coastal winds that batter the nearby beach camps. Access is excellent, with sealed roads making it 2WD friendly and suitable for larger caravans and camper trailers. However, you need to manage the family’s expectations: there are no showers here. It is drop toilets and gas barbecues only. You need to bring a solar shower or embrace the salt. You also need to bring all your own drinking water. While you are minutes from the stunning Conto Springs Beach, be careful—it is a surf beach with serious rips, great for fishing and board riders, but often too rough for toddlers. It’s also a prime entry point for hiking a section of the Cape to Cape track. Strictly no pets and campfires are strictly seasonal (usually banned Dec–April).
