Stenhouse Bay Campground - Dhilba Guuranda-Innes National Park
About This Campsite
Stenhouse Bay Campground is the first campground you reach inside Dhilba Guuranda-Innes National Park, making it a convenient base for exploring the rugged southern tip of the Yorke Peninsula. Located about 6km from Marion Bay and a little over 3 hours from Adelaide, the campground has 25 allocated sites spread through low coastal scrub within easy walking distance of the beach, the historic Stenhouse Bay Jetty and the park’s Visitor Centre.
Each site comes with its own campfire pit for use during the permitted season (generally May to October), though you must bring your own firewood as collection within the park is not permitted. Two sets of long-drop toilets and BBQ facilities are provided, but beyond that you need to be fully self-sufficient with your own water, power and supplies. There are no showers and no powered sites. Sites are relatively large and unstructured, suitable for caravans, camper trailers and vehicle-based camping, with 2WD sealed road access. Some sites slope unevenly, so check the ground before setting up, and be aware that lower sites can flood after heavy rain.
The park is a playground for fishing, surfing, bushwalking and wildlife watching. Cast a line from Stenhouse Bay Jetty for squid, or head to Browns Beach for some of South Australia’s best salmon fishing. The Stenhouse Bay Lookout Walk is a 2km circuit with seven lookout points over the dramatic coastline, while longer hikes include the Thomson-Pfitzner Plaster Trail to historic Inneston (7.6km return). Emus wander freely through camp, kangaroos bound from the scrub at dusk, and reintroduced tammar wallabies are slowly growing in numbers. Between June and October, southern right whales are visible from the cliff tops. Late spring is ideal for visiting, with warming weather, wildflowers in bloom and campfires still permitted in the evenings. Camping fees are around $17 to $24 per night and must be booked online before arrival. Park entry fees are currently waived through Easter 2026.
