Pondalowie Bay Campground - Dhilba Guuranda-Innes National Park
About This Campsite
Pondalowie Bay Campground occupies a prime position near one of the Yorke Peninsula’s best surf breaks, tucked into low mallee scrub within Dhilba Guuranda-Innes National Park. The campground is split into three zones offering 9 large caravan sites, 16 camper trailer sites and 26 tent-only sites, all on firm level pads with good spacing between neighbours. Access is via a sealed 2WD road, about 12km west of Marion Bay.
Facilities are basic but functional. Long-drop toilets are provided along with a public phone and picnic shelter. Fire pits are available at each site during the permitted season (seasonal restrictions apply), and you’ll need to bring your own firewood as collection is not permitted. There is no potable water, no showers and no powered sites, so come prepared to be self-sufficient. The campground sits within native mallee vegetation that provides reasonable shelter from wind.
Pondalowie Bay is renowned for its consistent surf, hosting the Yorkes Classic surfing event on the October long weekend each year. Beyond the waves, you can fish from the rocks or beach, launch a kayak into the sheltered bay, or walk the coastal trails that connect to nearby Stenhouse Bay and the historic Inneston township. Wildlife is a highlight, with reintroduced tammar wallabies grazing through camp at dusk, hooded plovers nesting on nearby beaches, white-bellied sea eagles overhead, and southern right whales visible from the cliffs between June and October. Park entry fees are currently waived through Easter 2026, though camping fees still apply. Be aware that march flies and bees can be persistent during warmer months.
