BIG4 Carnarvon Gorge Holiday Park
About This Campsite
BIG4 Carnarvon Gorge Holiday Park (formerly Takarakka) is the civilized sanctuary you will be desperate for after a full day hiking the Art Gallery or Big Bend tracks. While the National Park campground down the road is strictly seasonal and basic, this 100-acre bush resort is open year-round and offers the critical comforts: legitimate hot showers to soak tired muscles, a camp kitchen that actually works, and a “Bush Bar” for a cold beer at sunset. The absolute “Dad hack” here is the wildlife—you don’t need to trek miles to find animals; the platypus live in the creek right within the campground (best viewed at dawn/dusk) and the echidnas wander past your tent. Access is fully sealed and 2WD friendly, making it the preferred base for caravans and big rigs that won’t fit in the National Park slots. Crucially, this is the only dog-friendly option in the area. They offer on-site kennels (for a fee) so you can drop the dog off and head into the National Park (where pets are banned) guilt-free. Fires are generally permitted in the communal fire pits, creating a great community vibe in the evenings.
