Habitat Noosa Everglades EcoCamp
About This Campsite
Habitat Noosa is the “Gentleman’s Camping” experience of the Sunshine Coast. Located on the shores of Lake Cootharaba, it strikes a rare balance: you can pitch a tent in the bush, but also walk 200 meters to an on-site microbrewery (CootharaBAR) for a cold pale ale and a bistro meal. This makes it an incredibly easy sell to partners who are hesitant about “roughing it.” The lake itself is the ultimate “Dad stress-reliever” for one reason: it is incredibly shallow. You can walk out 500 meters and the water is still only waist-deep, making it arguably the safest swimming spot for toddlers in the state. However, you need to prepare for the local wildlife. The Eastern Grey Kangaroos are everywhere and very tame (great for photos), but the midges (sandflies) are absolutely ruthless at dawn and dusk. The Dad Rule: Do not rely on natural remedies; bring the heavy-duty tropical strength repellent and apply it before the sun goes down, or you will be eaten alive. It is the primary gateway to the Noosa Everglades, so if you plan to kayak or take the eco-tours, they depart right from the jetty. Facilities are resort-standard, but you pay a premium for them.
