Stockyard Campground
About This Campsite
Important: Stockyard Campground and its toilet block are currently closed until further notice, as confirmed by Parks Victoria. Check the Parks Victoria website for the latest status before planning a visit.
When open, Stockyard Campground offers a quieter alternative to the busy Tidal River precinct at Wilsons Promontory National Park. Located in the southern section of the park, it provides a peaceful bush setting as a base for exploring the Prom’s extensive walking track network. The campground is vehicle-accessible and suited to tents, with basic facilities including toilets and fire pits in a natural bushland environment away from the crowds that congregate at Tidal River during peak season.
Wilsons Promontory is Victoria’s southernmost national park and one of Australia’s most loved wilderness areas, home to over 20% of the state’s native plant species and half its bird species. Wombats, kangaroos, emus and echidnas are commonly seen throughout the park, along with threatened species like the Southern Brown Bandicoot and Long-nosed Potoroo. The park is about a three-hour drive from Melbourne. When Stockyard reopens, bookings will need to be made through Parks Victoria. The park is in the South and West Gippsland fire district and closes on Code Red fire danger days.
